In Teddington, Shambles Restaurant & Winebar delivers the kind of experience neighbourhood restaurants are loved for, generous food, genuine hospitality and a sense that guests are always welcome back.

Family run, independent and recognised with the Award for Best Family Business in the UK, it is built on care, consistency and a kitchen that cooks with quiet confidence.

The menu leans Italian while following the seasons, drawing on produce from across the British Isles and Italy. It moves effortlessly from relaxed bar snacks to plates worth settling in for, the sort of cooking that turns dinner for two to four into an evening that stretches comfortably without anyone noticing the time.

A gentle graze is a natural place to begin. Arancini arrive crisp and golden, while slow baked polpette offer rich, comforting depth. Antipasti keep things unfussy and flavour led, from lightly crisp day boat squid to creamy burrata stracciatella paired with seasonal garnishes that let the ingredients speak clearly.

Mains are confident and satisfying. Pan roasted cod with lentils and parsley sauce sits alongside wild boar sausages served with buckwheat polenta, while dry aged steaks from the wood fire showcase careful cooking and excellent produce. Pasta brings warmth and substance. Fresh egg tagliatelle with Crown Estate venison nods to regional Italian traditions, while homemade pasta twists fold neatly into a slow cooked pork and spicy ’nduja ragù that balances richness with a welcome kick.

Firmly rooted in South West London yet quietly cosmopolitan, it is a restaurant that suits both spontaneous meals and longer occasions. Book in, arrive hungry, and enjoy food that is thoughtful, seasonal and made to be shared.
