Moored on the Thames at Richmond, Peggy Jean at Riverside Green brings historic charm to the river’s edge. Housed on a lovingly restored former Oxford college rowing barge, it offers sweeping views of the waterfront and a breezy, beach-club atmosphere. This is a place for unhurried moments: lazy brunches that drift long past noon and sunset dinners that glow over the water. Outdoors is dog-friendly, making alfresco tables especially coveted.

In the kitchen, Australian-inspired cooking leans into smoke and char. Twin clay-fired ovens on the pontoon turn out wood-fired pizzas with quirky toppings, while share plates, day-boat fish and flame-kissed steaks set an easy rhythm. Little jolts of flavour punctuate the spread: flatbread dusted with pepper berry salt, whipped Greek yogurt brightened with apricot harissa, tempura cauliflower lacquered in hot jalapeño honey, and crispy Aussie banana prawns lifted by fermented chilli and lemon. Skewers range from buffalo chicken with house ranch to Hereford fillet steak with mushroom XO.

Heartier signatures nod to comfort with a sun-seeking twist: chicken parmigiana with baby gem, and a Hereford dry-aged sirloin with green salad and house fries. Sides might be simple, but they are never shy, from fries with kombu salt to charred greens. Finish with roasted mango, clotted cream ice cream and local honey, or sink a spoon into sticky toffee pudding with Madagascan vanilla gelato.
