Set in the Jewellery Quarter on Albion Street, Temper & Brown tastefully marries historical charm with contemporary flair. Reopened under owner Roifield Brown, the relaxed neighbourhood spot is all warm welcome, colourful leather seating and sunlit windows, with a secret courtyard that whispers of long afternoons and easy conversation.

Expect smoke, spice and island soul, as jerk marries citrus brightness and a touch of sweetness. St Kitts saltfish cakes meet a pineapple and pomegranate salsa, while curry mutton and brown stew chicken deliver depth and comfort, and a jerk-kissed salmon fillet brings a lighter, modern lilt.

There's plenty for grazing too - buttermilk fried chicken strips, garlic and chilli corn ribs and fried plantain play well with a pile of Cajun fries. Sundays get their own swagger, with jerk roast chicken or honey jerk salmon, finished with spiced jerk gravy or thyme and rosemary gravy.
