Set across three floors of a nineteenth-century building in the Jewellery Quarter that began as a jewellery workshop then a badge factory, 1000 Trades channels Birmingham’s love of craft. It pours four real ales, seven craft beers and eleven natural wines on tap. The soundtrack is curated with the city’s music community and local artwork lines the walls, creating a space that is at once pub, gallery and listening room. Expect a warm welcome and a programme of live music, comedy and political therapy sessions for the community.
The kitchen keeps things fresh. Nibbles might be Gordal olives or artisan breads, then small plates like onion bhaji with mint yogurt, chili tamarind and coriander, or a comforting soup of the day with homemade focaccia. Larger appetites are met by Goan-spiced moules frites in coconut broth, or Chick Pollo, braised free-range chicken with tomato and chorizo, crunchy butter beans, patatas bravas and mojo verde. Pub classics are done properly: beer battered fish and chips with minted mushy peas, pickled onion and lemon and dill tartar sauce, or bangers and mash with caramelized onion and tenderstem broccoli.
Whether you pull up a bar stool for a pint, gather friends for a celebration or find a quiet spot to work, 1000 Trades moves at your pace. Swing by, linger over something delicious, and let craft lead the way on the walls, in the glass and on the plate.
