Old school sophistication meets Manchester's urban flare with an impressive restaurant that keeps you on your toes.
Modelled on the interiors of grand country manors with members club-style furniture decked out in glossy leather and rich earthy tones, The Fountain House is, at eye level, an elegant country retreat that could have a croquet court out back. Look up, however, and Manchester beams through with industrial metal pipes and vents snaking across the ceilings. It's certainly grand and celestial, but The Fountain House isn't about to forget its roots here in the northwest.
At the end of the day, it's also a pub and does a mighty good job of putting its own spin on pub classics. The starters opt for more European flavours like harissa, buffalo mozzarellla, Niçoise salad and chicken liver pâté, gently introducing you to The Fountain House's widespread interest in gastronomy all over.
And whilst the mains very much focus on pub classics, they're putting their playful personality forward with fish & chips accompanied by a pea liquor, an aged flank burger with bread and butter pickles, and a seabass dish with chorizo and lemon. They're no stranger to other continents either; armed with cauliflower Thai curry, chicken schnitzel and an Asian soft shell crab burger, The Fountain House is simply brimming with inspiration, beauty and grace.
