La Bodega Negra is a maverick Mexican hideaway right in the heart of Soho.
Obscure entrance aside, things at this popular lower ground restaurant get pretty wild. Descending downstairs, the vibrant colours and lively atmosphere will leap out at you, as will the inventive Mexican and South American fusion dishes.
The amiable sharing vibe shines through in La Bodega Negra’s appetisers and small plates. Seabass and salmon ceviche both display a delicate, lip-smacking freshness. Tacos are small and fiercely friendly: make acquaintances with the carne asada (grilled rib-eye steak) and ceviche-topped crispy gurnard, while the tortilla soup is a fiesta for the taste buds.
You can fall for full-flavoured dishes like the roasted chicken, which comes in a sumptuously smoked chilli and nut mole, or the lamb barbacoa with a trio of salsas. With so many rebelliously good options on this menu, we can safely say you'll come away feeling rather content, if a little bit overwhelmed...
Naturally, they also cater quite beautifully for vegetarians - the quesadilla huitlacoche (truffle corn) is a subtle party on a plate - along with sides like charred hispi cabbage and spicy, pecorino-coated corn on the cob.
With live DJ rolling into the wee hours, it's no surprise La Bodega Negra has that fiesta feeling. Late night or early doors, any time is a good time to grab a cocktail from their extensive list of Tequila, mezcal, and Mexican beer-based concoctions. Let the good times roll!
