Calcutta 16 Shoreham brings the flavours of the subcontinent to the coast with a quiet confidence born of tradition.

The setting suits unhurried meals and good conversation, inviting diners to settle in and savour. Plates are made for sharing, aromas beckon from the kitchen, and the rhythm of the meal encourages lingering over the last spoonful of sauce.

Recipes handed down through generations meet carefully sourced local produce, so that everything from tangy chutneys to gently spiced curries arrives with balance and purpose. It is the kind of cooking where technique does the talking and the spice cupboard is wielded with restraint as well as flair.

Begin the journey through Calcutta with bite-sized lamb tikka grilled in a clay oven, lightly spiced shrimp served with puri, or the ever-popular crispy onion bhaji.

At its heart is the tandoor, lending a lick of smoke and char to favourites like chicken tikka and tandoori salmon, while slow-cooked comforts such as dal makhani and Hyderabadi lamb shanks speak to patience and depth. Whether one favours fiery heat or a milder touch, dishes are calibrated to please, stitched together with seasonal vegetables, fragrant herbs and that signature North Indian warmth.

For a taste of India shaped by heritage and honed by craft, Calcutta 16 Shoreham is a welcome address. Book a table, bring your appetite, and let the tandoor set the tempo.
