Buonissma arrives in Sandiacre with a feel-good take on Italian-inspired comfort, polished into something fresh and current. It is all about simple pleasures done right, from crisp bases to saucy bowls and the kind of flavours that invite one more bite.

Flatbreads set the tone: try layers of seasoned chicken, halloumi, red onion and fresh tomato with a lick of sriracha mayo, while mushroom flatbread folds earthy mushrooms through creamy garlic and tops the lot with goat cheese. From the oven, pizzas range from the classic margherita with all tomato, mozzarella and basil, to a meat-forward chorizo e pollo where roasted peppers, chicken and chorizo bring warmth and a savoury punch.

Pasta keeps things decidedly hearty. There is bolognese pasta crowned with parmesan, and spinach with mushroom in creamy garlic sauce with blue cheese. These are plates made for twirling forks and wiping clean.

Set a date, bring an appetite and let Buonissma do the talking — comfort with character, by the slice, the fold and the fork.
