Set above the river Tas in the historic Colman’s mustard grain store at Stoke Mill, Elda brings an intimate hush to Norwich. With the water slipping past below and Norfolk’s heritage in the walls, this dining room is steeped in character and poise.
The kitchen’s compass is an eight-course tasting menu that evolves each week, anchored in local bounty and brightened by ingredients from further afield. Classical craft meets contemporary clarity here, featuring duck liver parfait with a breath of truffle or pan-roasted chicken with mushroom duxelle and chardonnay jus.
You'll also find sea bass glossed in crab and shrimp beurre blanc, or the indulgence of Chateaubriand from the grill. A sunlit thread runs through the vegetable cookery too, stretching from barbecue harissa aubergine to a saffron risotto, whilst puddings nod to the familiar with raspberry Bakewell tart and apple tart Tatin.
Led by chefs Chris and Hazel, each service is cooked in full view, the choreography unspooling course by course as stories of place and season unfold. Reserve a seat, linger over the river’s calm, and let Elda chart a course through an evening of Norfolk flavour.
