Tucked away behind the Meadows on South Clerk Street, The Southern is something of a hidden gem, offering a relaxed setting for intimate group dining.

With its warm and inviting atmosphere, rustic tables, and open brickwork, the restaurant's charming interior makes it the perfect place to chill out, whether you're meeting family, catching up with old friends, or on a first date. As for the staff, they've been busy sourcing the highest-quality, locally sourced ingredients to make your dining experience one to remember.

Taking pride in being rooted in the south of Edinburgh, The Southern showcases hearty dishes that blend the familiar with something new, a combination you'll find in dishes like haggis and honey 'neep croquettes and a truly fantastic Scottish sharing board made up of a selection of their finest starters.

But the crown jewels of the menu are their burgers stacked with everything from haggis and smoked Applewood cheese to fried halloumi and caramelised onion chutney. All are served in a sesame brioche bun with tomato, cos lettuce, and chunky fries; they know exactly how a great burger should taste.

They've got something pretty sweet up their sleeves. Their brownie is known and loved throughout the city, but you really shouldn't overlook the chef's banoffee sundae, indulgent ice cream, fresh banana, and dreamy toffee sauce. How can you resist?
