dinner

In Clifton, Bristol, Chandos Restaurant pairs restraint and polish with a relaxed warmth.

The kitchen leans European in spirit, balancing comfort and finesse, while the cellar pulls from across the globe with a keen eye for characterful bottles. A great location, an elegant setting and genuinely friendly service make it the sort of place that feels celebratory without trying too hard.

Cooking here is quietly confident: a volcano-roast Tuscan artichoke heart to tease the appetite, and silky slices of pata negra jamón alongside serrano. Plates show a light, precise touch, perhaps setting Jerusalem artichoke against toasted chicory, pickled girolle and a smooth hazelnut emulsion.

Larger courses carry depth and richness, from wild North Somerset venison osso buco over Parmesan polenta to slow-cooked beef short rib with celeriac purée. To finish, the Chandos brownie with raspberry coulis sits happily beside a pistachio tiramisu, each an indulgent closing note.

This is a dining room for unhurried conversation, attentive yet easy-going hospitality, and wine that flatters the food rather than competes with it.

Let the team guide you through the list, settle in, and make an evening of it. Book a table, bring an appetite, and follow your nose; good taste has a way of finding you at Chandos.
