In the heart of Berwick village, a short stroll from the train station, The Berwick Inn is where the pace eases, and good company takes centre stage.

This welcoming free house is a true local, the sort of spot where neighbours drop in to chat, celebrate or simply watch the day unfold. The mood is relaxed and unhurried, with friendly service, a convivial bar pouring well-chosen wines, beers and cocktails, and café comforts for the commuter crowd.

In the kitchen, the ethos is traditional and unfussy, with quality doing the talking. Small plates such as sweet chilli hummus and marinated olives set an easy tone, while starters might lean classic with homemade soup and bloomer bread and butter.

Pub favourites are anchored by signatures like The Berwick Inn burger, layered with monterey jack cheese, tomato chutney and baby gem, and a 30-day aged rib-eye steak from the grill.

Daytimes feel casual and breezy; come evening, the mood shifts towards fine dining, with polished plates and generous flavours. To finish, few things beat a traditional sticky toffee pudding, all warm nostalgia and caramel comfort.

Whether you are en route for walks around the Long Man or tasting sessions in nearby vineyards and breweries, this is a place to unwind and feel at home.
