Haru Izakaya brings the pulse of Tokyo’s backstreet bars to Lewes, capturing the easygoing spirit of a neighbourhood spot where lingering is encouraged. The head chef, trained by sushi masters across Japan and China, combines decades of know-how with street-style energy.

The menu roams widely through Japanese comfort and clarity. Guests can enjoy smoky yakitori, crackling tempura, and noodles with a satisfying chew. Karaage chicken arrives feather-light and crisp, while agedashi tofu is silky with savour beneath warm dashi.

Eel and Angus beef are prepared on the grill for kushiyaki, and tataki of salmon or Angus beef shines bright with citrus soy. Sushi and sashimi are fresh and precise, from delicate hosomaki to generous slices that let the fish do the talking. Small plates and bold flavours invite grazing and conversation at every turn.

The room is built for gathering, whether for a quick bite or a slow roll through the menu. Guests can book a table, bring good company, and let the evening unfold one small plate at a time.
