Tucked in Hanover, The Geese builds its reputation on locally sourced sausages that change with the seasons, and some proper mash.

Known citywide as the bangers and mash pub, they wear their laurels lightly: voted Best Roast 2023 and 2018 and Best Local 2022 at the Restaurants Brighton Bravo awards, it remains resolutely down-to-earth and keenly hospitable. ** NEW ** Summer menu of some of the most flavoursome hot dogs in the city, house pickles, chorizo bits and more - Look out for their crazy rotating specials such as their recent caviar & lemon zest cream cheese loaded hot dog.

Expect stalwart pork and the occasional flourish of venison or Moroccan lamb, alongside veggie and vegan recipes crafted in-house. The garlic herb and mushroom number is a cult favourite. The mash and gravy selection is a small obsession here; purists and adventurers alike are united by the siren call of their famous Guinness gravy.

Beyond the bangers, there are comforting burgers, crisp baked potatoes and proper pub treats, with pudding that nods to tradition: think sticky toffee pudding or a vanilla cheesecake with coulis.

Warm, music-laced and full of happy regulars, The Geese is the kind of Brighton local where time loosens its grip. Swing by for a plate, stay for a pint, and let the gravy be your guide.
