Coming in hot for wine lovers in Spitalfields, Alfi has landing in the trendy borough with its incredible range of European wines that are primed for lush and fragrant Italian plates.
Modelling themselves as a wine pub, Alfi is one member of a flourishing trend of cosy, homey eateries that specialise in wines rather than pub beers. Following their love of the humble crushed grape, you can expect 10 wines on tap that are 100% organic and biodynamic. Alfi opened the bar side of their space in early December, with their restaurant side which recently opened on the 7th Feb. You'll find them where Leon used to be in the market and they're cosy enough that you might want to enjoy a lazy late-night supper while you're there.
They're keeping things uncomplicated with a distilled bar food menu that has just a few choices but boasts some incredible flavours. Experience the Mediterranean Sea at its best with their 'King Prawns & lovage mayo'. They also serve 'Filled Focaccia' which offers a handheld burst of savoury goodness, and their signature 'Barbecued Potatoes' for a crispy, smoky sensation.
A little peak into their restaurant menu. Produced by their Italian Executive chef, Lorenzo, they have the ‘Pluma’ dish, a superbly juicy, tender cut of Iberico Pork. Their creamy 'Scamorza' adorned with sourdough and tomato dressing; or a particularly popular dish in Piedmont, Italy since the 16th century 'Cauliflower, bagna càuda'. Other traditional plates include tagliatelle topped with a rich beef ragu, pappardelle doused in a simple yet tantalising 12-hour-cooked tomato sauce, and succulent spatchcock.
The real drama, however, can be found at the bottom of a rich Sicilian white!
