This is the sort of restaurant that lends itself as well to intimate dinners with friends as it does to date night. Think dim lighting and rustic wooden furniture, flickering candles and chalkboards that show a daily changing roster of mouthwatering specials.

Start your meal with the likes of French onion soup or haggis croquettes before moving on to hearty mains such as steak, roast venison haunch and slow-cooked pork belly.

There is also a dedicated skewers menu that makes a light main or tasty sharing starter. We love the roast halloumi and sweet potato option, which comes with flatbread and your choice of side (garlicky fries, please!)

The carefully-curated wine list is the perfect accompaniment to your meal. Think European favourites as well as a few international surprises, such as a delicious red from Uruguay.
