Purple Poppadom brings Kerala-inspired cooking to Pontcanna with modern polish. In a sleek first-floor room of exposed brick, abstract murals and signature purple accents, Chef Anand George delivers Indian cuisine with finesse and clarity of flavour, balancing tradition and contemporary technique.

Coastal notes make a bright opening - soft-shell crab tossed with curry leaves, a spiced crab cake alongside - or pan-seared scallops glossed with garlic and ginger, all elegance and clean heat. It is the sort of culinary style that nudges the senses awake, confident without ever crowding the palate.

Mains lean into slow-cooked depth and char. Grilled lamb chops meet stir-fried greens and a glossy reduction, while raan Akbari sees a lamb shank braised until spoon-soft in its own rich juices. The curry repertoire ranges from the silk of murgh makhani to the Kashmiri warmth of lamb rogan josh. Vegetables claim equal billing, from the velvet comfort of dal makhani to the earthy lift of saag khumb.

The mood is warm yet poised, the room humming with the spice-fragrant promise of the kitchen. Settle in and let the conversation find its rhythm. Book a date at Purple Poppadom and savour tradition with a modern twist - poppadoms at the ready!
