The Discovery

The Discovery has long been a beloved landmark of Lakeside, its warmly worn-in charm anchored in the spirit of Captain Robert Scott’s Antarctic adventures.

Established in the 1960s and still keeping its original layout, this is a pub made for stories: cosy corners, familiar faces, and the easy hum of a neighbourhood meeting place where visitors quickly feel like regulars.

In the kitchen, it is comfort first, with quality local produce and a sense of wanderlust guiding the plate. The weekly rhythm brings Monday pies from the much-loved Victoria Park pie to a hearty mushroom and stout pie. Tuesday swings to burgers, from the croeso classic burger to the plant-powered burger. Midweek takes a detour to Japan with chicken or vegan katsu curry, Thursday is for a 6oz rump steak, and Friday signs off with fish and chips.

Pub classics hold court: hand-battered pollock with chips, mushy peas and tartare, and traditional Welsh meatballs with buttery mash. Sticky toffee pudding and Mario's ice cream sundaes make for a nostalgic finale.
