A true legend in British culinary circles, Marco Pierre White is everywhere to be seen, from best-selling cookbooks to cooking competitions on TV and chat shows. Now, he's planting himself firmly in Bristol with his very own restaurant in the DoubleTree Cadbury House.
In the true style of the chef himself, Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill is smart and inscrutable. Designed like a traditional European bistro, the restaurant follows a more classic aesthetic with a simple monochrome and wood colour scheme, the white tablecloths as pristine as they come, and the Chesterfield chairs glossy and elegant. A touch of Art Deco materialises in the form of little lamps that grace each and every table, creating an intimate bubble around each dining party.
As the name of the restaurant suggests, they deal primarily in beautiful British beef. All steaks come from the Campbell Brothers and are grass-fed and dry-aged for some truly sublime flavours. On the menu are fillet steaks with garlic prawns and butter, ribeye steak and ribeye. The same beef is used to form succulent patties that are encased in soft brioche buns with melted cheddar, cured bacon, Blue Monday cheese and gherkins.
And whilst they're a steakhouse, they have other strings to their bow. Other mains delve into British, French and Italian cookbooks with chicken and leek pie, Dijon-style roast lamb and pork Milanese. Attention is also lavished on the sides which bring each dish together, so don't forget your side order of buttery garden peas or macaroni cheese. And when it comes to something sweet, sticky toffee pudding and seasonal crumbles put British cooking back at the top of the agenda.
