Hotwells Eatery brings the warmth of India to Bristol City Centre, from the first full breakfast of a leisurely morning to the last spoonful of supper. Those with a late start are invited to settle in with a freshly brewed cup and a full breakfast taken at ease; friends are very much welcome.

In the kitchen, thali, biryani and curry are cooked fresh each day, with a focus on honest flavours and regional character.

A plate of chicken tikka or a crisp Punjabi samosa sets the tone before slow-simmered favourites such as rogan josh or madras arrive, fragrant with tomatoes, curry leaves and spice. House specials lean creamy and coastal in turn: butter chicken masala for comfort, a goan prawn curry enriched with coconut for brightness.

For a generous sweep of tastes, the lamb thali or vegetarian thali gathers small dishes with rice and salad, while Hyderabadi lamb biryani and its vegetable counterpart deliver aromatic layers.

Chana masala and saag paneer make hearty companions, best finished with garlic naan or a sweet Peshwari naan, and perhaps a scatter of saffron-scented polao rice or simple egg fried rice. Unhurried, welcoming and central, it is a place to linger.
