My girlfriend and I are huge lovers of meat. The Ox offers excellent meat. The maths was pretty simple on this one. Hidden under the Commercial Rooms Wetherspoons, it was a happy change to be having a fine dining experience so near to a place I'd had many a slightly less fine dining experience. The ambience of the place was lovely - dark, lit by a warm amber glow, kind of like a fancy 1920's restaurant (although if you want to get millennial about it, it's too dark to get an instagram worthy shot of you and your partner happily munching away on some prime quality Rib-eye). I got the rump, medium-rare, which was delivered at the perfect level of medium-rareness, and (it's an awful word, but apt for this scenario) succulent. I was a little disappointed with the blue cheese sauce though, which tasted like it had been over thickened with cornstarch. Overall, the service was friendly, the food delicious and I got to laugh at my girlfriend devotedly yet repentantly polish off a steak that might not have quite been manageable for one person to eat in one sitting.

The Ox under Corn Street was an absolute delight.
From the moment you step down the stairs, it's like entering another world, the friendly staff provide a warm welcome and the food matches that all the way from starter to desserts.
Both my partner and I agree The Ox is to be our first choice for a meal out in Bristol so far.

Steaks were great cooked perfectly. My starter tasted nice but expensive for the amount you got. Although what my friends got looked better value. Desserts where really nice too. Atmosphere was good once more people came in. Overall really good meal.

Booked a table for two on first table for my boyfriends birthday. Couldn’t be happier! The service was excellent and the food was amazing.
My boyfriend had the sticky ribs for starters and the fillet steak for a main, both of which he said were the best he’s ever had- including the triple cooked chips which were so good. As I do not eat meat, I chose the mackerel pate starter and the only fish option: the skate with brown shrimp butter- both absolutely fantastic, real fine dining.
When the bill came out at the end we were delighted, such a rarity to have fine food like that and not have it empty your bank.
What’s more, at the end with the bill, the waitress brought over two glasses of complimentary prosecco to toast happy birthday.
Safe to say we will be returning - even said we’d try to make it once a month!
Thanks first table and the Ox for making such a memorable birthday

I have been to The Ox before, and it was fantastic as always. The front of house staff here really make the experience for me, they are all so welcoming - and know their stuff when it comes to the food!
There is lots of low lighting and it's a quiet little retreat from the noisy street outside, which gives a lovely secluded atmosphere.
The food is always beautiful. They know what they're doing with a steak, but the brownie I had for dessert really blew me away this time.
Would always recommend for a great steak and cocktails.
