King Street Raj

King Street Raj has been a steadfast name in the city’s dining scene since 1981, serving the heart of Indian cuisine.

Founded by Feroze Ahmed, now run by his son Hasan, the restaurant helped bring Indian cooking to the heart of Bristol and grew into one of its most famous destinations for curry lovers, a time-honoured address where recipes and memories linger.

The menu speaks in familiar, aromatic tones. From the sizzle of tandoori chicken and chicken tikka to regional nods like Lucknow pasanda and a Ballygunge bhuna, flavours are layered and comforting rather than showy. Classic companions appear where they should: basmati rice and naan for soaking up sauces, cucumber and onion raitha and chutney for a cooling contrast.

There is equal care for plant-based favourites, with chana masala and tarka dal sitting alongside paneer staples such as matar paneer and saag paneer. There is a fantasic vegan menu with dishes made with tofu and chicken, beef and duck soya pieces.
