The Meeting Place

On the Brighton and Hove seafront, The Meeting Place tells a story as enduring as the tide. Under the same stewardship since around 1977, it grew from a much-loved 1930s kiosk in Hove that even withstood the great hurricane of 1987. Planning quirks and a city merger later, a new home rose on the Brighton side in 2002, while the seating marks the spot where the old kiosk once stood. Uniquely, this cafe now straddles the border - a true meeting place in every sense.

Its tale has threaded through books, films, and television dramas - the original hoarding was even created for the television series Poirot. Set approximately 200 yards from the i360 and near the derelict West Pier, there's a palpable sense of seaside theatre to every visit.

The kitchen leans into comforting, Italian-leaning flavours. Think crisp frittura di calamari to start, then classic pizzas from margherita to pepperoni diavola. Mains include the signature Meeting Place creamy chicken with mushrooms and garlic over risotto, while pasta features favourites such as spaghetti alla carbonara and linguine positano.
