Fourth and Church

Fourth and Church is guided by seasonality and a taste for the unusual, inspired by Levant and Southern Europe.

Opened in 2015 on Church Road, Fourth and Church remains an understated neighbourhood dining room where simplicity delivers big flavours. The venue is the culmination of Paul and Sam’s long friendship, forged at Brighton’s Terre a Terre in the 90s and tempered in Michelin-starred kitchens and hotel dining rooms. Their blueprint was scribbled in the noisy bars of Sevilla and Jerez over jamon, stews and pig cheeks with chilled fino, and refined in New York’s late-night chef haunts and sunlit European vineyard lunches.

Early bites might run to gordal olives with cultured chili and sesame or crispy oyster mushrooms with aioli, before small plates such as shaved cauliflower with macadamia dukkah and clementine and pomegranate salsa, or beetroot cured salmon with pickled apple and kohlrabi dusted in everything spice.

Larger courses could see market fish with saffron and fennel braised squid, arancina beans, piquillo and smoked tuna seasoning, or roasted lamb rump with migliaccio, beetroot and a whisper of fig leaf lamb jus, followed by British and European cheeses.
