In Broomhill, Sheffield, Thyme Café has spent two decades honing a warm, unpretentious welcome, now entering its 21st year with the same ethos.

From the moment guests step inside, the front-of-house team blends professional polish with bubbly Northern charisma, setting the tone for easy-going dining and good conversation.

The blackboard menus are the heartbeat here - 20 years of chalk on the walls telling an ever-evolving story of snacks, small plates, café favourites, mains and indulgent desserts.

Expect bright, satisfying flavours that roam from the Mediterranean to modern British comfort: salt and pepper squid with a lick of chilli and lemon, sautéed prawns and chorizo, a roast Jerusalem artichoke risotto, or a seared salmon fillet. To finish, classics call - think sticky toffee pudding or a silken crème brûlée of the day.

Art runs through the space as vividly as the menu. Local heroes, buildings and landmarks appear in pieces by Sheffield artists, while the secluded Thyme Garden - open to diners and non-diners - offers a calm, open-air nook surrounded by greenery and hand-painted murals that celebrate the city. It's a welcoming spot to eat, unwind and exhale from lunch through to dinner.

Drop by for a quick bite or linger over dessert in the garden. Make time for Thyme, and let the chalkboard lead the way!
