Bench

In Nether Edge, Bench is the bistro and wine shop born from a side project by Jack and Ronnie in 2018. After three sold-out pop-ups in favourite independents across Sheffield, all about convivial drinking and dining, they settled into a permanent home in autumn 2020. Today, Bench keeps that easy-going neighbourhood spirit alive.

Inside is cosy and accommodating; when the sun shows, an outside terrace beckons, welcoming reservations until 7pm. Lunch and dinner run through the week, with a set menu in the early evening and at lunchtime on select days, for bookings and, when available, walk-ins. With advance notice, the team are happy to cater to dietary needs.

The cooking is ingredient-led and generous, well matched to a Martini or a Negroni. Think sourdough with Aleppo butter and smoked almonds, burrata with grilled courgettes, pea shoots, mint and smoked honey, or an aged flat iron steak with grilled padrons. To finish, perhaps vermouth strawberries with mascarpone and oat crumble, or a Greek filo and orange pie with clotted cream and boozy oranges. Book a table, pull up a seat and let Bench set the tone for a very good time.
