Hidden just behind the hustle of central Brixton, Paddys Yard brings the bold heart of Jamaican cooking to life with a menu full of slow-cooked classics, vibrant spices, and rich dishes designed for sharing. Tucked behind St Matthew’s Church and accessed through the churchyard, this lively spot is the perfect place to unwind after the market, catch up with friends, or introduce someone to Caribbean food done right.
Led by the talented Chef Roy of Joy and Gladness LTD, the menu at Paddy’s Yard brings together the bold flavours of Caribbean cooking with the comforting classics of a traditional Irish pub. From slow-cooked island favourites to pub staples with a twist, every dish is full of character and warmth.
For mains, the kitchen doesn’t play around. Whether it’s crispy pork belly coated in jerk spice or the house Jerk Chicken, everything is packed with slow-roasted, smoke-fired flavour. But if you’re stuck choosing, let the team decide, whatever lands on your plate will be rich, tender, and unapologetically bold.
At Paddys Yard, things get fiery. The Crying Tiger beef salad takes jerk-marinated roast beef and dresses it with Thai basil, fresh coriander, and a whole lot of attitude. It’s equal parts heat, freshness and flavour, made to fight over.
The cocktail list brings the sunshine too. From the island-style Paddy’s Island Iced Tea to the unapologetically boozy Tropical Hurricane, the drinks are made to match the menu’s energy. But it’s The Pound Punch that steals the show, a Pimm’s-fuelled jug of rum-soaked fruit and flavour that doubles as both drink and dessert. Just make sure you grab the last bit of pineapple before someone else does.
