In the heart of Islington’s lively Angel district, The Peacock is a vibrant gastropub where rustic charm meets contemporary polish. Committed to high-quality, seasonal ingredients, it serves modern British plates in a warm, spirited setting with friendly service. Downstairs hums with conversation and clinking glasses; upstairs, a plush, low-lit cocktail bar with velvet booths offers a discreet hideaway and a creative drinks list, steps from the bustle of central London.

The menu leans into comfort with a twist. Small plates set the tone, from warm focaccia strewn with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, za’atar and feta to salt and pepper squid sharpened by chilli, spring onion and roasted garlic aioli. For sharing, sociable staples appear—think nachos piled with cheese sauce, salsa and guacamole, or chicken wings glossed in Louisiana hot sauce, barbecue sauce, or garlic and Parmesan—while pub favourites like fish and chips keep things reassuringly familiar.

Mains stay honest yet indulgent: a 28-day aged sirloin steak with triple-cooked chips, rocket and peppercorn sauce, or a pan-fried fillet of sea bass with rosemary potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, salsa verde and red wine jus. To finish, a sticky toffee pudding or milk chocolate mousse beckons, perhaps alongside an espresso or a deftly shaken espresso martini. With a thoughtful cellar and craft beers to match, plus dessert sips like Port of Leith tawny port and Monbazillac 2015, it is a place to linger. Book a table and let The Peacock strut its stuff.
