In the heart of Central London, Franco Manca Russell Square champions the simple pleasure of good dough and good timing. Sourdough takes centre stage, paired with produce-led toppings and a menu that leans into Italian traditions from aperitivo to digestivi. The mood is easygoing, inviting guests to settle in and savour.

Begin with a nod to the larder: grilled artichoke and butternut squash alongside Kalamata olives and semi-dried tomatoes, or a charcuterie spread with rocket, Frantoio's Grana and buffalo mozzarella. Pizzas keep restraint at their core — a classic Margherita that lets tomato and basil sing, and a prosciutto and funghi number that pairs roasted ham with earthy mushrooms. For the table, tear into garlic bread or spoon into burrata; greens might arrive as artichoke and butternut squash with grains, or a new chicken salad tossed through mixed leaves.

The aperitivo spirit is alive: Aperol Spritz for sparkle, a Negroni for bite, or homemade organic lemonade. Close with an affogato — hot espresso over cold gelato — or a generous cheesecake, then perhaps an espresso chaser or limoncello to finish. Sociable, relaxed and unpretentious, this is a place for conversation as much as crust. Book a table, bring good company, and let the sourdough steal the show.
