Monteiths brings a refined confidence to Edinburgh Old Town, shaped by a devotion to quality steak and seafood that began in 2007. Guided by family values and seasoned know-how, the kitchen channels the best of Scotland’s larder into dishes that balance purity with polish. An elegant dining room and a cosy Whisky Snug set the tone for unhurried evenings, while attentive service keeps the experience seamless from first pour to final flourish.

The cooking leans into coastal freshness and Highland depth. Islay oysters arrive bright and briny with horseradish cream and caviar, while a hand-dived scallop basks in Cullen skink broth, threaded with sea herbs. Flavours are layered with restraint, letting provenance lead and technique whisper.

Mains speak in rich, autumnal notes: venison with tarragon, wild mushroom and blackberry jus, or a fillet steak paired with black cabbage, peppercorn sauce, bone marrow and potato pavé. Sides add texture and intrigue, from broccoli with miso and smoked almonds to wild mushrooms in tarragon cream. To finish, an apple Tarte Tatin meets Blue Murder for a bold finale, or a chocolate and miso caramel tart melts into vanilla bean indulgence.

Settle in at the bar for a Heather Honey Old Fashioned or drift towards a Sunset Old Fashioned, both anchored by Highland Park 12. Make a date with Monteiths, book ahead, and let Edinburgh’s evening work its quiet magic.
