Tucked into Bath City Centre, Portofino Oyster Bar is an intimate ode to coastal Italy, where the city’s bustle gives way to a welcoming hush.

It is a labour of love from first greeting to final sip, inviting both leisurely lunches and celebratory dinners beneath its warm, convivial glow.

In the kitchen, chefs honour time-honoured Italian recipes while nudging them forward with a contemporary twist. Starters range from a cocktail of fresh Portofino prawn with guacamole and harissa mayo, to burrata served with a selection of heritage tomatoes, and poached peaches.

Handmade pasta is rolled and shaped each day, and sauces are simmered gently, resulting in soulful spinach and ricotta ravioli or risotto with pan-fried salmon. The result is food that feels both familiar and refined: clean, bright flavours, a reverence for seasonality, and the quiet confidence that comes from letting impeccable produce lead.

Whether slipping in for something simple and restorative or settling into a longer affair, guests find an experience shaped by care, craft and pride, right in the heart of the city.

Make a date, bring an appetite, and let the tide of Italian flavour carry you away.
