Find food for the soul on First Table in London

“Food may be essential as fuel for the body, but good food is fuel for the soul” said entrepreneur Malcolm Forbes.

In recent years there has been an increasing trend towards plant-based foods, locally sourced and sustainable produce and farm-to-fork dining. It's not surprising that many restaurants have followed suit and are consciously offering food that’s good for the body, soul and the environment.

The Shed

Where else to start but The Shed, the original Gladwin Brothers offering, bringing the fruits of the farm to Notting Hill. The menu features hyper-seasonal produce, with a focus on zero waste. Ingredients are locally grown and foraged, and meat is sourced from the Gladwin farm in West Sussex, championing sustainable livestock.

Created by founder and chef Romain Bourrillon, Cocotte’s menu showcases the best local produce and farm-to-table meats. With a menu that includes plant based popcorn chicken, a roast cauliflower and oyster mushroom salad, vegetarians and vegans are well looked after (as well as extensive allergen information on their menu). With 5 restaurants in Notting Hill, Shoreditch, Persons Green, Queen’s Park and South Kensington you're spoilt for choice.

Hām West Hampstead

Hām West Hampstead source their meat and produce from 50 Lake District farmers who care deeply about the land, the local community and their produce. Their meat is free-range, as chemical free as possible, pasture-fed with a full supply chain history. The menu is changed daily to ensure the freshest seasonal produce, and you can expect anything from heritage beetroot paired with skordalia, nectarines and walnuts for starters, to lamb saddle, grilled beans and anchovies, or pan-fried pollock, celeriac, peas and broad beans for mains.

Purezza in Camden is the first Pizzeria in the UK to have an entirely vegan menu, making it good for your body and better for the planet. Where science meets food, Purezza took two years to create a plant-based mozzarella that tastes and melts just like dairy. Their menu is 95% gluten-free and sustainably sourced and even their restaurant fit-outs are made with recycled and refurbished materials. Purezza is prize winning, planet-saving pizza.

And we end with another gem from the Gladwin Brothers, Nutbourne in Battersea. The mains showcase seasonal and sustainable produce at its best. The menu menu emphasises wild, foraged, locally grown, and sustainable produce with high-welfare meat (beef, lamb, and pork) sourced from their family farm in West Sussex
