In Leytonstone, Caribbean Grill House turns up the flame on island comfort cooking. The menu sails between fire and sweetness: jerk smoke, honeyed glazes, citrus lift, and the unmistakable prickle of Scotch Bonnet. It is the kind of place where plates arrive generous and inviting, made for sharing, lingering and licking the last gloss of sauce from the bone.

Openings set the tempo with wings lacquered in jerk, honey lemon pepper, fried barbecue or sweet chili, and deep-fried, in-shell jumbo prawns. From there, the Reggae Chicken Burger and a classic beef burger nod to cravings, while grill-house staples hold court: quarter or half jerk chicken, lamb chops brushed in honey jerk or simply salt and pepper, and a sirloin steak cooked well done. Seafood steals a scene with a seafood boil heaving with snow crab leg, lobster tail, jumbo prawns, potatoes and corn on the cob, or a whole lobster with fried escovitch, garlic butter and seafood sauce. Bowls of mac and cheese and chips keep spirits high, and desserts close with comfort - think caramel bread pudding or apple crumble with custard.

The mood is relaxed and lively, the kind of East London gathering spot where grill aromas lead the way and conversation comes easy. Heat levels can be dialled from mellow to mighty with house honey jerk sauce and that lively Scotch Bonnet chilli. Book a table, bring an appetite, and catch a little sunshine on the grill - no passport required.
