The brainchild of friends Andre Avedian, Dan Levine, and Stuart Swycher, Sarona Eatery is part of a new wave of cool, contemporary middle eastern restaurants which is sweeping through London right now.
Located in the heart of Clerkenwell, London’s design capital, the restaurant’s interior oozes style thanks to geometric tiles, moody lighting from bare bulbs dangling off exposed pipes and rustic wooden floorboards, making it as inviting for brunch as it is for a celebratory dinner.
The menu reflects the heritage of all three founders, although it draws much of its inspiration from Tel Aviv. Start with a glass of Tishbi Israeli wine and a selection of mezze to share. Crispy cauliflower with tahini sauce, fluffy pita bread flavoured with za'atar and spicy lamb kofta are all excellent orders here.
Mains or ‘big plates’ are well priced and delicious. The all-day shakshuka is a rich, velvety combination of hawayej lamb slow-cooked for 14 hours and runny free-range eggs, a comforting, wholesome dish that will have you scraping the plate clean.
