dinner

Caribbean Croft radiates the warmth of a neighbourhood kitchen and the swagger of a seasoned rum bar.

Guided by family recipes and an independent Bristol spirit, it champions West Indian cooking that is bold, soulful and frankly irresistible. Jerk smoke, thyme and allspice curl through the room, while the clink of glasses hints at a formidable collection of rums.

The cooking leans into fire and finesse: stamp'n'go saltfish fritters arrive feather-light with Scotch bonnet heat; jerk chicken fillet is charred at the edges and juicy within. Slow braises bring depth: curried goat rich and aromatic, oxtail lush with butter beans. Balanced by staples like rice'n'peas, sweet plantain and the occasional festival for dunking.

Vegetarians are not afterthoughts here. A pumpkin and yam stew folds in beans, okra and chipotle for earthy comfort, while ackee and mushroom with peppers and chilli offers silky, savoury lift. To finish, a slice of yard cake with toffee sauce or a bright Fruity Fling keeps spirits high.

With a relaxed, community-first welcome and an enviable shelf of rums from across the globe, Caribbean Croft is the kind of spot that leaves bellies full and faces smiling. Settle in, share the love and let the good times roll. Book in and get a little fiery, a whole lot irie.
