Tucked away on Edmund Street in the heart of the city, Plates has carved out a cosy little nook that feels like a cross between a pebbled Mediterranean side street and a classic British snug. The focus here? Beautifully crafted plates of food, delivered with signature Spanish flair.
In keeping with the restaurant’s luxurious feel, Chef Glynn Purnell has created a selection of tapas-style dishes that are as delicious as they are visually stunning. The menu is divided into four sections. First, the finger foods (pinxtos) designed to kick things off and get the conversation flowing: whipped goat’s cheese with serrano ham, mozzarella croquettes, olives and artichokes. Then there’s the carnes (meat), offering up the likes of honey-drizzled chorizo and sticky, slow-cooked pork belly.
Next up, the verduras (vegetable dishes) like the unmissable aubergine chips with honey and truffle. Finally, the pescado y marisco (fish and seafood) with standout dishes such as king prawns in paprika butter and red wine-braised octopus. With such a wide range to sample and share, every visit can be a new adventure.
