Cuisine: A La Carte, Bistro, French
Price Point: Mains from £10-£30

If you love unpretentious French food, welcome to heaven…

Husband and wife team Jérôme and Roxane and their best friend Ophelie have set out to bring the best of Parisian bistro-culture to Bristol, with a focus on quality ingredients and simple, flavoursome dishes served in a relaxed atmosphere that is somewhere between a wine bar and a restaurant.

The kitchen serves delicious, wholesome food like comforting onion soup, ratatouille, sharing boards of French cheese and charcuterie and pissaladières, traditional pizzas from Nice.

Unmissable dishes include cafe gourmand, a hot drink with a selection of mini desserts, and decadent raclette, a melting basin of cheese with your selection of potatoes, cornichons and meat to dip in.

Of course, the exclusively French wine list is superb, while the cocktail menu includes all your favourites alongside some sophisticated signature serves. If absinth, vodka, honey and orange bitters sounds like a bit of you, try the La Fée. Also on offer is Mariage Frères tea, which has legendary status in France.

For an authentic taste of Paris you can’t beat La Guinguette. Located on Cheltenham Road

We had a lovely glass of sparkling Cremant on arrival- very bubbly indeed. French Cremants are made in same way as Champagne and so at £4.20 a glass much better value than a Prosecco. For our starter we then went for the Charcuterie sharing board - this was a plentiful platter of typical French deli meats including Bayonne ham and Rilletes pâté - this also included a larger-than-usual bread basket. We washed this down with a caraffe of Crozes Hermitage (it’s great that they offer their wines by the caraffe - especially on a school night!) For our main course we both opted for the Smoked Lardons and fried egg salad (Frisée au Lardons) with the most amazing vinaigrette- typical Paris bistrot style - with a side of fries! Portions were large and we were too full for desserts, however we finished off with a digestiv of Pear Eau de Vie...very smooth. We had a very enjoyable and cosy evening and will be returning very soon!

Lovely starting platters ideal for sharing, nice non-cluttered menu and good to see a well put-together French wine list. Thanks!

It's my second La Guinguette experience and it was even better than the first time.
The best espresso martini I've ever had in my entire life! If I could eat an entire Camembert on a daily basis I would.

Really lovely, we tried a couple of things from the menu and a couple of the specials. Great value for money too on both the food and the wine.

I’ve walked past this place so many times with the intentions of going in & trying, it completely blew my mind with how insane the dishes were! I’ve never had food like it, I wanna return on a daily basis! The Camembert was insane & I could eat it everyday! I wanna go back & try everything on the menu, at least twice!

We really enjoyed our dinner at La Guinguette - great food + wines, and with wonderfully friendly and personable service. The owners stopped at every table and made everyone feel welcome - it was our second visit, and it felt like seeing old friends!

Loved the steak frites, raclette, and cafe du gourmand.

We have been here several times before already, so by the fact that we returned you can see that we like this place.
This is probably as authentically French as a birtrot in Bristol can be. The ambiance is cosy, tables are not too close together (the only difference from a French Bistrot!). Small, but good, selection of wines, all French. The red wine is served at the correct temperature!
The food is staple bistrot food. This time we started with the charcuterie plate for two and a tuna and tarragon rillette. The tuna rillette was excellent. The charcuterie board was a good portion for two, paired with lovely bread.
As mains we had an onion soup and a frisee salad with lardons, with a dish of 'dirty' french fries on the side (fries covered in raclette cheese with lardons). The fries are a sizeable portion, be sure to be hungry! The salad had the French dressing that I learned to love when I lived in France. The onion soup was a bit watery, but tasted very good. All in all an experience that requires to be repeated! If you like original French food, this is your go-to place!

Without doubt my favourite new restaurant in Bristol. Incredible food, incredible service, incredible wealth of options - a French restaurant that caters to vegans - and very widely?! Amazing. Real wealth of knowledge on the menu and suppliers and genuinely fantastic staff.

See you again very soon!

My 3 (teenage) children and I had a lovely meal at la guinguette with first table. The steakfrites were delicious and the Parisian pizza with creme fraiche was an unusual taste sensation. It was understandably very quiet this early in the evening but I'm planning to return at a later time with friends to check out the ambience as well as the food! Great, unobtrusive service!

Very French experience! This new restaurant is a great addition to the Gloucester Road. Lovely attentive staff and delicious food. The Mushroom appetizer was a tasty way to start and the crème brulee was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

We noticed this place had recently opened and thought 'we need to check this out'. Especially as it is a French place, we hoped they had a decent wine list (The Library across the road had recently closed!). So, them being on First Table was a fortuitous situation.
First ting: the red wine was served at the right temperature! We ordered the cheese board as a starter and they were absolutely delicious! Sourced from France apparently. We then had the steak frites and they were done exactly to specifications. On that aprticular evening it was a bit qiet, but that gave us a chance to have a little chat with the owners who were very friendly and accommodating. We liked it su much we returned two days later. If you fancy a bit of French Bistrot culture in Bristol this is the place to go to!

The wine was amazing which made a good night a great night, you need to try La Guinguette. Best new bistro I have tasted and by far my new favourite place!

Thanks so much guys, we fell in love with La Guinguette and will be back again very soon!

First time booking....the atmosphere was relaxing, attention to us was appreciated & then the wine & the food came & we were very happy.
We shared our food choices so were able to try more & though the menu is simple it does not disappoint on how it was cooked or flavour.
We'll definitely be back.

Wow what a great find.

This newly opened French Cafe / Restaurant is a must if you enjoy great French cuisine.

My husband and I were warmly welcomed and shown to a small booth - perfect for the two of us. The ambience is enhanced by the warm colours and lighting. We knew we were in for a treat.

After a glass of wine from our very reasonably priced bottle of Sauvignon Blanc we made our choice as follows:

Starters
Small baked camembert with toast and Tuna and Tarragon Fillets (pate) served with sour dough bread.

Main
Chicken Cesar Salad
Boeuf Bourginon and new potatoes

Desert
Crepes Suzette with Cointreau

The food is absolutely delicious and we felt very spoilt. We took our time over every course and at no point were we rushed. The service is excellent and we will definitely be back.

This Cafe / Restaurant has everything to offer that we are looking for - Great Food, Great Service and Great Atmosphere.
