Discover honest food and outstanding flavours at this neighbourhood favourite…

Opened in 2009 by Bristol-born Adam Denton, The Cowshed brings the true taste of the West Country to the city. Adam’s ethos is simple; to serve good British food in a relaxed environment.

Focusing on fresh, local and organic produce, this kitchen is proud to support West Country farmers and producers who share their same ethos and passion.

Known for their quality meats (from the butcher next door), The Cowshed is also passionate in hand-picking the finest wines, sourcing the freshest fish for the daily specials, and using seasonal produce for their vegetarian dishes.

Tuck into favourites like the poached lemon chicken, or the crispy pork belly. From wild mushroom and truffle risotto, to slow cooked beef ragu, their menu is a celebration of West Country produce. Save room for their desserts though (the sticky toffee pudding is delicious!).

Enjoy a welcoming and relaxing dining experience at The Cowshed, located in Clifton, Bristol.

I found it quite confusing and misleading that a steak restaurant would not allow the first table offer to apply to...steak! Whilst the service was great, it seemed as though this was a tactic by the owners to lure you in and pay a whopping £30 (minimum). All other restaurants, including the most pricey out there have not employed this tactic, allowing first table diners to explore the full delights Bristol restaurants have to offer, meaning that diners would hopefully return, having sampled their otherwise inaccessible cuisine. Unfortunately, due to the obvious hoodwinkery (despite it being highlighted on the terms when you book), this would mean in my case anyway, I'd be very unlikely to return.

It was my first time using First Table and it was on the whole a positive experience.
Lovely atmosphere in the place. The staff were polite and friendly. Food was AMAZING!
Only criticisms is that a different menu was offered to us on the night (the menu online was the 'old menu') and that the steaks weren't offered as part of the deal.
On the whole a great experience and would recommend to others!

I have been here before and therally recommended it, and there is absolutely no change! They have just introduced there spring menu which is just as mouth watering as the winter one. Me and my friend had scollops as a started and duck as a main with the beef dripping fires as a side and all were so tasty expertly cooked and well presented. I can not recommend this place enough for its location and price in comparison to others around will continue going back there for sure. We had a window seat which was lovely and there’s a lovely relaxed ambiance staff were great at knowing just when to come over and not Interput conversation and we’re happy to help with what ever we needed.

We arrived for a early evening meal to a busy and lively atmosphere. We were shown to a window seat which would have been lovely on a warm and sunny evening. However, as it was the coldest night of the year I asked if it was possible to move. The waiter could not have been more accommodating and moved us to an inner table. We were made to feel special right from the beginning.

I cannot recommend the quality and the delicious taste and flavours of the food highly enough. It has been a number of years since my husband and I have been to The Cowshed and we will definitely be back soon.

We decided not to have a starter and opted to have extra side dishes instead with our main meal. My husband chose Chicken and I had the whole Brill cooked in paper. With the extra dishes of Mushrooms and Potatoes Dauphinoise we had a truly Gourmet meal. I should add that if you have a starter you may not need the extra side dishes as the meals come with accompanying vegetables.

We finished our meal with Sticky Toffee Pudding for me and the Cheese Board for my husband. Again these dishes were a real treat.

Completed with a bottle of Voignier we had a truly memorable meal.

Great service, Great atmosphere and all at a reasonable price this is a restaurant not to be missed.

We booked a table for two via First table and upon arriving there was only one waiter both writing orders down and delivering food to the tables. We waited to be seated and because there was only one waiter we had to wait 5-10 minutes between ordering drinks and food. The food was excellent, we ordered a mushroom risotto with truffle and pork belly and it was sensational. Overall I would recommend this place but a little constructive feedback on getting more staff!

Dined this week , restaurant is in a good location with a car park around the corner at a good price for Bristol .

Menu is modern and as per the current trend quite small . We had Fish which was well presented and beautifully cooked . Service was good , the restaurant gets busy quickly and quite noisy with bare floors etc , good lighting, decor and reasonably warm , a bit of a draft from the chimney nearby .
A very nice experience.
Would visit again .

Delicious food in a restaurant with a great ambiance. Unfortunately we were sat at a table by the door which got incredibly cold as customers came to and from the restaurant.
In addition, it was a very busy evening and disappointingly, that noticeably took its toll on the service we received as the night went on.

Apparently, my partner and I were the first First Table customers at The Cowshed. We both enjoyed a delicious cocktail with seared scallops and pork belly starters, then lamb and pork mains (only steaks were not included from the menu) which were all cooked to perfection. We also shared a sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce, as we couldn’t manage one each. The staff were friendly and attentive and, when the kitchen sent us a mac ‘n’ cheese instead of potato dauphinois, they quickly ordered us the original side dish as an extra.

As we walked into the restaurant we were greeted by a charming man who showed us to a lovely window seat, allowing us to laugh at the commuters as we enjoyed our food.
We took advantage of the fantastic deals on offer and really went to town with our selections. A starter, main and side each! The food was good, although it would have been great to have the steaks included in this.
The food came promptly and was delicious, i had the lamb cutlets and my smoking hot boyfriend had the beef ragu. We each had a drink, myself a wine and my hubby a delicious sugar free soft drink.
We decided against desert as we were both stuffed at the end ;)
Then came the bill. We each had a guess at what it would come to and were both pleasantly surprised when we saw it was £40! My boyfriend guessed 60!
All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely be taking advantage of more fantastic offers available through first table.
