Cuisine: Japanese, Ramen
Price Point: Mains from £10-£20

Filling bellies all over London with hot, comforting ramen, Tonkotsu has opened in Soho.

It's a cosy spot away from the busy streets of Soho. The narrow dining room caters perfectly for the long tables that encourage communal eating and general merriment. Whilst the dining style is super traditional, the grungy ceilings and minimal lighting keep this place modern and oh-so-fresh.

There’s ramen for days! Choose from six types of ramen, like their signature tonkotsu ramen or their new miso mushroom ramen. Then customise it to your taste with an array of add-ons like a seasoned egg, crab or pork belly. And if you don’t think that’ll fill you up, have a few pieces of gyoza on standby.

Accompany your Japanese feast with a bottle of the good stuff. Their wine list is short but carefully considered, but if you want an authentic experience, order in some Sake! Alternatively, keep it cool with a Kirin beer or a red-orange ale.

I'd been wanting to eat at Tonkotsu Ramen for the longest time and was overjoyed when I saw it on First Table. From the moment we entered the cosy restaurant, we were met with a metaphorical 'hug' both from the friendly waitstaff who were on hand to recommend their favourite dishes and drinks, and the salty, warming, flavoursome ramen. I went for their spicy ramen dish, Geki Kara ramen, which the waiter thankfully informed me came EXTRA HOT so suggested getting the 'scotch bonnet chilli mash' on the side. Well noted, as adding only half the chilli mash still packed a punch! My friend really fancied the Seafood ramen but was put off by the chicken broth as she is a pescatarian. Upon request, our helpful waiter suggested she get the seafood ramen with the Konbu and shiitake broth & miso base (used in the vegan Japanese mushroom miso ramen)- she was overjoyed to have her crab and eat it too! It was incredible having the meal half price, the food is great value to begin with so using First Table really sweetens the deal. At the risk of sounding cliché, after that fabulous experience I’ll definitely be back!

Lovely experience! The food was amazing (as expected) and the service was also outstanding. The menu was clearly explained by the staff and we ordered quickly, making our evening smooth and meaning we were not late for theatre afterwards!
Will definitely come back! Recommend the duck hiyashi and the pork gyozas, washed down with Japanese beer.

Food was okay. Chicken Wings were cold. Asked to reheat and still not hot.

After our meal we were told to hurry up to seat other people. Very rude as we spent a lot of money there.

Very nice staff. The ramen are really good, the broth, the pork, the eggs... everything is very full of flavor. We enjoyed our lunch there.

Good ramen - we ordered the tonkotsu which was creamy and tasty. The prawn and squid were pretty tiny - much smaller than anticipated. Service was a bit slow and at times hard to get the attention of staff, but overall a good dining experience.

Delicious food, friendly service and great value with the discount! Glad we booked a first table as when we left the line was almost out the door. Will definitely eat here again.

Our meal at Tonkotsu was absolutely delicious, we had a lunch reservation for 12:00pm and by the time we'd finished people were queuing to sit down and eat, testament to how great this place is. The service was quick and friendly and the food was top notch. I highly recommend the tempura padron peppers and okra, been craving it ever since, and the miso mushroom ramen was delicious.
