Nestling beneath two Georgian buildings in Richmond Upon Thames, this fabulous basement venue is just the place to escape from the buzz of the city above and immerse yourself in classic British hospitality.

Unwind in one of the cosy velvet armchairs by the fire and start exploring the enormous selection of kegs, weekly-changing cask ales and bottled beers on offer. The staff are clearly beer fans themselves and have an encyclopaedic knowledge, which they are only too happy to share. From Pilsners to Porters, they’ve got you covered.

The food is a cut above the peanuts and pork scratchings offered at your average pub. Think ribs marinated in a cider sauce and slow cooked until flaking off the bone, spicy chorizo mussels with chips and stone baked goat’s cheese pizza. Don’t miss the home-made tiramisu, a fluffy dream of a dessert with an intense coffee flavour.

We weren't quite sure what to expect, as we took the steps down to the basement bar and restaurant. You definitely feel like you've been transported to a European drinking den. It was just before 6pm and the bar was already full of revellers enjoying the Happy Hour (5:00 to 6:00) so worth getting there early for a warm-up beer or two. The beer selection is something else, you're spoilt for choice with every flavour and strength of beer, ale and ciders, n-tap and in bottles.
We made our way down to the restaurant. The menu is eclectic. We ordered the onion rings and the absolute highlight of the night - the borek cheese rolls - which were literally out of this world. We enjoyed hearty mains too (huge servings) of salmon, prawns and chicken.
A trip to this underground tavern is a must especially for a wintery night.

Nice gastro pub restaurant. Food was high quality and the service was friendly and quick. Really enjoyed the lamb shank and sorbet for desert.

The staff was attentive and helpful. The menu is a strange mix of Turkish, Italian, burgers but it was great for people who can't decide what they want! We had mostly the Turkish options and they were fantastic. A good selection of beers as well.
